SFO Flight Deck Experience

Worked with the Razorfish Emerging Experiences team based in Atlanta as lead Information Architect on this best-in-class travel experience, which blends the physical and digital spaces. We conceived and produced a beautiful, smart, and useful installation and interactive piece that won recognition and accolades across the country. The experience was based on three guiding principles:  

  1. Create interactions that are quick & meaningful  
  2. Engage users via playful collaboration  
  3. Make the SFO story become a part of the user's personal narrative. 

The outcome resulted in a three-part method of engagement:

ATTRACT MODE
A sculptural data visualization that reflects real-time inbound and outbound flight updates, was magnetized to the body so it would function as an "attract mode" display.

ENGAGE
As users are drawn into the flight deck experience, they engage with one of seven multi-touch kiosks to learn about the history of flight at SFO, attractions and art exhibits within the airport, and the city itself. 

CONNECT
Because travelers' time is limited, we then scoped a mobile take-away component, so users could reference the info they need - like the location of the nearest cup of joe - while on the go.
